Accident Reconstruction Engineer
Robert Campbell
Robert Campbell is an Accident Reconstructionist with GrayMatter Group, where he has investigated motor vehicle collisions since 2021. He applies a dual foundation in engineering and biomechanics to determine how crashes occur, how vehicles and occupants respond, and how those dynamics produce injury. His work focuses on producing clear, evidence-based analyses that explain the physical and biomechanical mechanisms of collisions for attorneys, insurers, and courts.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering from the University of Michigan–Dearborn. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Injury Biomechanics from Wayne State University. These credentials provide the technical basis for evaluating both vehicle dynamics and human injury mechanisms. Additional specialized training includes Pedestrian/Bicycle Crash Investigation, extending his ability to analyze non-occupant collisions.
Before joining GrayMatter Group, Mr. Campbell conducted driver behavior research and crash investigation at the University of Michigan. He later served as a Crash Investigator with Michigan Medicine’s International Center for Automotive Medicine, where he analyzed vehicle speed, movement, and injury mechanisms in real-world collisions. That experience combined field investigation with clinical and research-oriented assessment of injury causation, giving him practical insight into how crash forces translate into specific trauma patterns.
At GrayMatter Group, he integrates that background into comprehensive collision reconstruction. He examines scene evidence, vehicle damage, electronic data, and occupant kinematics to establish sequence, speeds, and contributing factors. His analyses address both the mechanics of the crash and the biomechanical relationship between those forces and the resulting injuries, supporting determinations of causation and severity.
Mr. Campbell’s combination of engineering education, injury biomechanics training, and hands-on crash investigation experience enables him to produce reconstructions that are technically rigorous and accessible to non-engineers. He applies this expertise to a range of collision types, providing objective, evidence-based opinions that assist in resolving questions of liability, injury mechanism, and crash dynamics.
