Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Accident Reconstruction

GrayMatter Group provides Cincinnati accident reconstruction and investigation support for attorneys, insurers, corporations, and public agencies. Our principal office is in Hebron, Kentucky, across the river from Cincinnati. We accept assignments throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky as part of our nationwide practice.

A collision in this region can involve an Ohio scene, a vehicle stored in Kentucky, and records held by an out-of-state carrier or another custodian. Establishing where the evidence is located is an early priority. We help define a technical scope that addresses the questions in the case and the practical requirements of an inspection.

Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky collision analysis

Assignments may involve passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, motorcycles, pedestrians, or multiple vehicle types. The analysis begins with the issue that needs to be answered: vehicle movement, speed, collision sequence, visibility, braking, or the relationship between physical evidence and competing accounts. We distinguish what is documented from what is inferred.

Our team biographies and curricula vitae describe the experience and training available for different assignments. The appropriate expert depends on the technical questions, vehicle systems, and evidence. A convenient location alone does not determine the qualifications needed for a particular reconstruction.

Interstate and interchange assignments

For incidents on I-71, I-75, I-275, or a connecting road, provide the direction of travel, nearest interchange, roadway name, and available reference information. A general description such as “near Cincinnati” may not identify the specific carriageway or ramp. Scene photographs and diagrams should be compared with the precise location before drawing conclusions about movements.

Merge areas, lane changes, ramps, and traffic queues can create different reconstruction questions. A rear-end collision in slowing traffic may require an examination of timing and vehicle response, while a lane-change allegation may turn on contact geometry and the sequence of lateral movement. Neither scenario should be assumed simply because it is described in a report.

Coordinate inspections across the river

Tell us where each vehicle is currently stored, who controls access, and whether another inspection has been scheduled. The collision location and the inspection location may be different. Tractor and trailer storage may also be separate. Confirming these details helps establish a realistic plan and avoids relying on an incomplete vehicle list.

Before a vehicle is repaired, returned to service, released, or disposed of, discuss whether an inspection or data retrieval is needed. Your legal team should coordinate preservation requirements, permissions, and notice to the appropriate participants. We offer 24-hour response for time-sensitive preservation inquiries; the specific examination and timing depend on access and the assignment.

Commercial vehicles and electronic records

Truck assignments may require attention to the tractor, trailer, vehicle condition, physical contact evidence, and available electronic information. Records should be identified by source and time period so that unrelated events are not treated as the collision event. A download must be interpreted in the context of the particular system and the other evidence.

Explore our commercial truck accident reconstruction and EDR and black box data retrieval services. Not every vehicle records the same parameters, and not every collision produces a retrievable record. The absence of data does not, by itself, establish what occurred.

Urban intersections and vulnerable road users

For an intersection, driveway, or crossing incident, useful documentation includes approach views, lane markings, traffic controls, obstructions, and any original video. If conditions have changed since the collision, identify those changes. Later photographs may document geometry without reproducing the lighting, traffic, or visibility present during the event.

Motorcycle reconstruction considers vehicle stability, rider interaction, and separate post-impact movement. Pedestrian reconstruction may examine contact location, sightlines, and timing. These analyses require evidence appropriate to the question; a final position or witness speed estimate is not a complete reconstruction.

What to provide for a case discussion

Start with the collision date, exact location, involved vehicles, current storage locations, and deadlines. Send the available report, photographs, diagrams, original video, previous inspection reports, and existing electronic downloads. Include the questions you want answered and identify any evidence that may soon become unavailable.

An incomplete file can still be discussed. The first review may identify additional measurements, records, or inspections needed before an opinion can be developed. Any resulting explanation should state its assumptions, describe the supporting evidence, and acknowledge material limitations rather than imply certainty that the available information cannot support.
