Virginia accident reconstruction services from GrayMatter Group help attorneys, insurers, corporations, and public agencies examine collision evidence. Reconstructionists serve Northern Virginia, Richmond, the I-95 corridor, and assignments throughout the state. Our principal office is in Hebron, Kentucky, and the firm accepts work nationwide.
The first question is what the assignment needs to establish. A dispute about visibility, an uncertain impact sequence, and a request to evaluate a previous reconstruction may involve different work. We identify the relevant evidence and the limits of the available record before defining the analysis and any additional examination.
Clarify the question behind a conflicting account
A file may contain several descriptions of the same event. Preserve the original statements and identify who made each observation. Distinguish a witness’s account from a later summary, and provide the recordings or transcripts when they are part of the available materials. Differences should be examined in context rather than removed from the case description.
For a Northern Virginia intersection matter or an I-95 collision, specify each vehicle’s reported approach and movement. Include the precise location and scene documentation. We can then assess which physical evidence bears on the disagreement and what additional records might help test the competing explanations.
Visibility work needs a documented viewpoint
When the issue concerns what could be seen, identify the viewpoint, the relevant time, and the evidence describing conditions. Supply original photographs and recordings, including information about when and where they were collected. A camera may document a useful view without occupying the position relevant to the participant’s account.
Later scene documentation should be labeled as such. Explain whether vehicles, obstructions, traffic controls, or other conditions changed before the visit. The review can then distinguish observations from assumptions and identify what a comparison actually supports. Uncertainty should remain visible in both the written analysis and the demonstratives.
Richmond and statewide vehicle examinations
Provide the year, make, model, and identifying information for each vehicle, plus its present location and custodian. This applies to Richmond assignments and cases elsewhere in Virginia. Tell us whether the vehicle has been released, repaired, moved, or examined by another party since the collision.
For commercial truck reconstruction, list tractor and trailer separately. Send available inspection reports, photographs, and relevant maintenance records. The requested scope determines which equipment and documents need detailed examination; a general allegation of an equipment problem is the beginning of an inquiry, not its conclusion.
Electronic data and video comparison
Our EDR and black box data review uses complete records wherever available. Include original electronic files, report notes, and the date of any previous imaging. A selected screenshot may identify the issue but can leave out information needed to evaluate the record accurately.
If a prior report compares electronic information with video or witness accounts, provide the full comparison and its supporting materials. We examine the assumptions used to connect the sources. When an apparent conflict remains unresolved, that limitation should be stated rather than concealed by presenting only the source that supports a preferred narrative.
Motorcycle and pedestrian collision evidence
Virginia matters may also involve motorcycles or pedestrians. Send scene and vehicle photographs, documented positions, statements, and available recordings. Identify whether the concern is movement, contact location, visibility, or consistency between an account and the physical evidence.
Retain the basis for any distance or position shown on a diagram. If the value was estimated or reconstructed later, say so. That information helps evaluate the strength of a conclusion and what further evidence could improve the analysis. An illustration should not make an estimated detail appear independently measured.
Review an existing reconstruction
When requesting a review of another opinion, include the complete report, calculations, exhibits, and referenced materials. State the particular questions you want examined. This enables a focused assessment of the evidence, methods, and assumptions rather than a reaction to an isolated conclusion or presentation slide.
We distinguish supported findings from issues requiring further work. A review may identify an unresolved question without establishing a contrary answer. Counsel can then decide which additional materials to seek with a clearer understanding of how the missing information affects the analysis.
Discuss a Virginia case
